ROSCOMMON COUNTY COUNCIL

Roscommon County Council is commencing a public consultation process for a Review of Speed Limits on Rural Local Roads. This review arises from recent legislation (Road Traffic Act 2024) which provides for the phased lowering of default speed limits in Ireland. The default speed limit for Rural Local Roads in Roscommon is to be reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h in the interest of Road Safety.

A list of proposed amendments to the Roscommon County Council Rural Local Road Default Speed Limits has been prepared. As part of the proposed amendments, 60 km/hr special speed limits as defined in the County Roscommon Road Traffic (Special Speed Limits Regional and Local Roads) Bye-Laws 2020 on local roads are to be replaced with 60 km/hr default speed limits with the exception of the urban area of Boyle where the
following arrangement will apply;
 

• Existing 80 km/hr special speed limit on local roads within the urban area of Boyle to be replaced with a new 60 km/hr special speed limit

• Existing special speed limits of 60 km/hr on local roads in the Boyle urban are to remain

The schedules and location maps of these proposed amendments are available for inspection during normal office hours (9:30am to 1pm and 2pm to 3:30pm) Monday to Friday from Tuesday 3rd September 2024, to Wednesday 2nd October 2024 (both dates inclusive) at the following location:
